About this HRA calculator
House Rent Allowance is a salary component that helps employees meet rental expenses. A part of HRA is exempt from tax, and the exempt amount is the least of three values: the actual HRA received, the rent paid minus 10% of salary, and 50% of salary for metro cities or 40% for non-metro cities.
This calculator applies those three conditions and shows the exempt portion and the taxable portion of your HRA. Salary here means basic salary plus dearness allowance.
The result is a monthly figure. Multiply by 12 for the annual exempt amount. Keep rent receipts and your landlord's PAN if the annual rent exceeds ₹1 lakh, as required for claiming the exemption.
